family ~ Minix {Glen Rose family photographer}

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

I love this family. The first time we met was for their session, but via email in setting it up, I could already tell we were going to have fun. We strategically chose the White Ranch as a meeting ground since I’m not able to travel too far for sessions at this point, and I was impressed by their willingness to come over to Glen Rose for pictures. They bore with me as I drove through the pasture to get us to our “spot” that I had chosen (and this time I didn’t get lost, unlike last time when I tried to take the Bradshaw family to the bluebonnet field). We dodged the gifts left by the cows and did a lot of laughing along the way.

Thank you to the Minix clan!

Newborn ~ Addison {Granbury newborn photographer}

Sweet, sweet Addison. At just 6 days old, this sweetheart didn’t want to miss a thing! Such a petite beaut, and SO much love from Mom and Dad. I truly love it when I get to see Mom and Dad “work” with their sweet bundle – the snuggles, rocks, pats, and sweet whispers. Such a joy and warmth to my heart!

Family Snow Day {Glen Rose}

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

So yesterday we were all getting a little stir crazy and decided it was time to get out of the house. I’m super safety inclined, meaning that I REALLY like to stay off the roads when it’s icy, but my sweet hubby is quite a bit more adventuresome than I am. He has proven his ice driving skills to me over the last decade plus, so when he brought up that we could go over to Glen Rose, get the Gator out, and do some improvised sledding, I was okay with that. I wasn’t as excited about the cold, but I have lots of warm clothes, so I started to gather my layers.

It just so happened that this coincided with week 4 of my Brooke Snow Advanced Pro class, a week that has been the biggest challenge for me. But, I had two realizations when Jeremy brought up family fun, Gator, and ice = 1. I never shoot my family (bad, bad mom photographer) and 2. This was PERFECT for the assignment! The added bonus, I purchased the 70-200 2.8 lens at the end of December, and I haven’t used it, so I even got it out to push me out of my comfort zone (which is my 50 1.4 and 24-70 2.8). Fun times were had by all! My only regret – I didn’t take a turn behind the Gator!

Before we left, we had to get icicles. Yes, I know how clean they probably are, but, I try to let them live a little from time to time…

So, then we set off for this adventure. I still think it’s stinking incredible that I left the house when it was 20 degrees out with gusts of wind that made it feel 5. Jer got the Gator all ready to go and secured a “sled” a.k.a. trash can lid and a rope.

No worries, no children were harmed in the making of these shots. I did find myself wondering how long she would drag before she let go of the rope…not too long.

Yes, I completely and totally made fun of Jer’s hat. I think it’s left from the 80s.

This picture is a requirement for a story. After I had gone inside (I’m soft in the cold, I tell you), they came in laughing. This was Hudson’s standard position while his sister was being pulled – standing up, watching. It seems that Jeremy was keeping an eye on Jenna (just like in the picture), and Hudson was standing up. They took a turn, and Jer asked H a question. H didn’t answer. H didn’t answer because he had fallen out of the Gator. Jenna missed him by inches as she sledded by. No one was hurt, so it has made for a great story!

And, I know it’s crazy to some people, but I LOVE the way the field looks – the golden colors against a blue sky (yes, I realize here the sky is not blue, but there are days it IS). I thought I didn’t like taking pictures in the winter, but I see so much beauty in outdoors right now! (and there are no rattlesnakes out!).

Stay warm, my friends!
